USCIS filing fees can be expensive — but if you can’t afford them, Form I-912 lets you request a fee waiver for many applications. Here’s how it works.
Who qualifies
You generally qualify if you (1) receive a means-tested benefit (like Medicaid, SNAP, or SSI), (2) have household income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or (3) have a financial hardship such as high medical bills.
Which forms can be waived
Many common applications qualify, including N-400 (citizenship), I-90 (green card renewal), and I-765 (work permit). Some forms are not eligible — check current USCIS rules.
How to apply
Submit Form I-912 together with the application you’re filing, plus proof of your benefit, income, or hardship.
